In this week of my Independent Study and Mentorship (ISM) journey, the path of exploration has led me deeper into the field of radiology. This week I annotated two articles, one of which directly addressed the effects of radiation exposure from imaging technology on patients.
Through the process of annotating articles of different topics, I have come to appreciate how reading and researching can assist in our understanding of specialized subjects. The knowledge gained from these readings raised several compelling questions. I found myself wondering not only the immediate impact of radiation exposure on patients but also the implications for healthcare policies and the evolution of imaging technologies.
One notable challenge this week was adapting to the different writing styles and vocabularies I read in articles outside my general understanding. However, I was able to overcome this obstacle through diligent research and a commitment to understanding unfamiliar topics and concepts. This experience has developed my ability to find and understand various informational sources, a skill that will serve me well in my ISM journey.
Success this week was not just about completing assignments; it was about recognizing the value of outside sources on my knowledge and how they deepen my passion for radiology. It was about the curiosity and knowledge that grew with each article annotated and each question raised. Looking ahead, I aim to further improve research skills so I am able to discover articles better suited for my personal research. I want to explore how radiology intersects with other medical fields to gain a more comprehensive understanding of its place in the broader healthcare field.
In terms of personal and professional growth, I have grown in terms of my analysis skills. I have developed a system where I am able to annotate articles to where I can clearly understand the main points of any piece of information.
This week has reaffirmed my passion for radiology while simultaneously showing how much more there is to explore within the field. My ISM journey is not just about completing assignments; it is a continuous journey of growth and learning about the world of radiology.
